Credit Union Coalition
for Justice-Involved Individuals

Credit union history and principles are deeply rooted in serving underserved communities and fostering cooperation among cooperatives.

We invite credit unions and industry service providers to join our Coalition for Justice-Involved Individuals to help address systemic discrimination against this highly unbanked and historically marginalized population. Access to affordable banking is a cornerstone of successful reentry, paving the way to financial stability and economic mobility.

The Coalition's goals include:

  • Building a national network of credit unions and community organizations collaborating to support returning citizens in achieving sustainable financial independence.

  • Offering guidance on policies, pricing, and procedures tailored to serving this population effectively.

  • Designing a "Fresh Start" financial education program customized for credit unions.

  • Establishing a community loan fund with affordable loan products and innovative risk assessment criteria.

  • Advancing financial inclusion to help reduce recidivism.

Your support is vital to breaking down barriers to mainstream financial services for millions of unbanked and underbanked individuals across the nation.
