About Us

First Step Alliance is a non-profit organization committed to charitable and educational causes that help advance successful re-entry and sustainable financial independence for justice-involved individuals. We seek to partner with re-entry programs, credit unions and Community Development Financial Institutions to fulfill our mission. 

Our primary goals are to:

•   Empower people through providing access to free financial education resources.

•   Strengthen families and communities by improving access to critical financial services.

•   Connect with other mission-aligned organizations to increase our reach.

The Role

 

Our interns are responsible for the ongoing management of our organization's social media presence and email marketing campaigns in alignment with our mission, strategy and direction. You will play an important role in increasing awareness for First Step Alliance and its critically important initiatives. Your ideas and input matter to us, and you will be considered part of our leadership team, helping us develop a robust marketing and community engagement strategy. You will be responsible for creating connections with other mission-aligned organizations through email and social media, and also identifying high profile individuals and influencers who can help us spread the word about our mission and vision.

 

The goal is for this volunteer opportunity to lead to a paid position, as we obtain funding through grants and donations. For now, it is a volunteer position with the possibility of a small monthly stipend.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate in developing marketing and community outreach strategies that leverage social media and email marketing. You will own the execution of the plans. 

  • Content creation across social channels, including blog posts, status updates, photos and videos. 

  • Manage and grow organization's presence across social media channels, with a focus on Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn.

  • Leverage measurement tools to provide progress reports and insights, while continually finding ways to improve on those metrics through testing and new initiatives

Qualifications/Experience/Education:

 

  • 1+ years of experience or BA/BS degree. Students currently pursuing their undergraduate degree will also be considered. 

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • In-depth working knowledge of Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and Twitter, including content creation.

  • Basic knowledge of Photoshop or Canva.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Powerpoint.

  • Experience with social media advertising and marketing analytics a plus.

  • Knowledge of email marketing platforms a plus.
